I can't believe I am about to do this, but I am coming to the defense of the Wheel of Time. I read the first ten books when I was a loser in high school, and I loved every second of them. I played the PC video game based off the story, and I am now considering rereading the series since Dampercast reminded me of it. That being said, turning these great novels into films is going to be a disaster. Each book is like 800+ pages and simply doesn't contain a movie within it. Certain stories are best left being told in their original medium, and this is a prime example. I don't understand the nerds' fascination with turning every beloved story (whether it be from comic books, or video games) into hollywood special effects orgies, since they are inevitably going to be disappointed. The story is so complex, and there are so many characters to keep track of, that expecting a movie going audience to understand it is pure insanity. Trying to condense such an enormous amount of material into a 2 hour movie will make it completely incomprehensible.
